Gold Chargers hold off Brea

The Huntington Beach Pee Wee Gold Chargers took to their road for

their second game of the 2002 Pop Warner Football season and returned

home Saturday with a 13-12 victory over the host Brea Bengals at

Arovista park.

Keenan Allen and Michael Bogard took advantage of an offensive

line that opened up holes to each rush for a touchdown.

Allen and Bogard also figured in a strong defensive effort that

featured the play of Christopher Halamandaris, Mike Wise, Nick

Refice, Dan Samarin, Joe Gree, Jake Machado and Chris Voss.

Sam Boulton, Austin Mymon, Drew Loughran, Collin Breedlove, Cody

Baca, Alec Ontiveros, Fernando Valdez, Troy Bitar, Travis Hanley and

Jordan Davis also contributed to the Pee Wee Gold Chargers victory.

Huntington Beach 6, Tustin 0

In a performance that coaches deemed “a total team effort,†the

Green Chargers defense held the host Cobras to minus-16 yards on

offense.

The victory moved Huntington Beach to 2-0.

Huntington Beach 12, South Coast 0

The Gold Chargers parlayed a swarming defense into an impressive

shut-out win over the Blue Seahawks.

Jr. Midget Division

Fullerton 26, Green Chargers 14

Turnovers plagued the Green Chargers, who dropped their first game

of the season.

Eugene Starikov rushed for more than 100 yards, which included a

19-yard touchdown run, to lead the Huntington Beach offense.

Jacob Slaton scored on a 63-yard sweep in the opening quarter to

cap a three-play, 76-yard drive for the Green Chargers.

Fullerton’s Bears returned one fumble for a touchdown for an early

8-0 lead, turned another fumble recovery deep in Huntington Beach

territory into another score, and came up with an interception to

thwart a fourth quarter Green Charger comeback.

Santa Margarita 7, Gold Chargers 0

The Gold Chargers turned in a big defensive effort to limit the

high-powered Mustangs.

Huntington Beach’s offensive highlight came in the form of a

50-yard pass play from Nicholas Crissman to Marcus Dubois.

Jr. Pee Wee Division

Cerritos 26, White Chargers 0

Alex Stradwick came up with an interception and Nick Dallas had a

fumble recovery for Huntington Beach.
