Coast tunes up for Cypress
Sophomore Nikki Saenz scored twice and Jaycee Mahler, Sarah
Ronquillo, Vanessa Rocha, Marissa McGregor and Fernanda Velasco
scored single tallies as Orange Coast College’s women’s soccer team
routed visiting Santiago Canyon, 6-1, in Orange Empire Conference
play Tuesday on the OCC campus.
Eyeing a showdown with perennial rival Cypress on Friday, OCC
Coach Barbara Bond was determined not to let her Pirates have a
letdown against the Hawks, who entered with a 6-0 record.
“We talked all last week about taking one game at a time and
especially not looking past Santiago Canyon,†said Bond. “I think
part of that coming into the game was that they were ahead of us and
it is tough to look past a team that has a better record than you.â€
The Pirates are now 6-0-0, 2-0-0 in the OEC. Santiago Canyon fell
to 6-1, 1-1.
