Costa Mesa boys rolling
The Costa Mesa boys under-14 APP soccer team has an impressive run
going.
They didn’t lose in five games of a recent tournament they won and
they won their first league game last weekend.
They went 3-0-1 to win the sixth annual McMillan Tournament in
Costa Mesa, then followed it up with a convincing 10-0 win as league
play began, all while only allowing two goals.
Mesa needed to win the third pool-play tournament game to advance
to the championship game and they did just that, shutting out the
opposition, 7-0, to force a championship matchup with Santa Margarita
Mesa won, 5-0, to give them the championship medal.
Mesa won the first tournament game, 3-0 and tied its second
contest.
As regular-season play began this week, Mesa showed no sings of
slowing down as it dominated North Irvine, 10-0.
Costa Mesa’s offense was led by forwards Herman Higadera, Jose
Perez and Austin Evett with support from midfielders Blake Pinto,
Alberto Hava, Marco Soto and Trevor McDonald.
Defensive support was provided by Caleb Burgess, William Briseno,
Kenneth Zich, Ben Abbott, Adam Seagondollar and Luis Cozza.
Goalkeeper Luis Ayala played steady in the net.

* Blue Lightning 2, Highlanders 5
The Blue Lightning made a strong comeback to get within one goal
at halftime, but it was not enough to overcome the Highlanders, who
scored two second-half goals to win, 5-2.
The Highlanders hurried to a 3-0 lead in the second quarter before
the Blue Lightning made a comeback on goals from Isaac Dela Mora and
forward Nicholas Meldrum.
The Highlanders scored two more goals in the second half but
received strong defensive opposition from Meldrum, Francisco Macedo,
Nicholas Halloran and Daniel Cabrera.
Blue Lightning forwards Adam Ditt, Malcolm Williams, Dela Mora and
Erick Alverez provided the offense.
