A slice of lunch at Pizza D’Oro

THE PLACE

Pizza D’Oro

THE JUDGE

Christine Carrillo, Daily Pilot news assistant

THE MEAL

A giant slice pizza with pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms, $5.55,

ordered from the lunch specials, (offered seven days a week from

10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) which included a complimentary salad, and a

lemonade added for $1.

SPEED

After you face the inevitable wait that a lunch crowd and a

relatively cramped restaurant bring, the speediness of your

home-style Italian lunchtime experience will quickly pick up. You

find a booth, order and your food quickly follows. However, getting

your food is the fast part, trying to eat it all requires a lot more

time.

SERVICE

The servers are relaxed yet efficient and friendly. They

graciously attempt to meet your every request (even if it’s just

trying to find out the name of the Dean Martin song they just

played).

THE VERDICT

Perfect pizza -- impossible portions. While you may start off with

a perfect sized pre-entree salad to moisten your pallet, you’ll

certainly be overwhelmed by the enormity of your giant slice. Giant

-- what an understatement. The giant slice, which is really more a

combination of three hefty slices, flows over every side of your

plate with an appetizing intimidation. It smells great, looks great,

tastes great and provides a great challenge. If you’re not up for it,

I’d recommend going for the less intimidating yet still very filling,

half slice just to play it safe. Otherwise, good luck and Godspeed.
