HB Rage wins first game in tourney

HB Rage, a girls’ Under-14 Division Gold All-Star team out of Region

55, won its opening game of the AYSO Area K tournament Saturday by edging

Region 56, 3-2, in Irvine.

Down 1-0, Jennifer Pacheco’s unassisted goal tied the score early in

the second period. Region 56 rallied to grab a 2-1 lead minutes later,

only to see HB Rage forge another tie, this time at 2-2, on Pacheco’s

direct kick from 20 yards out.

Late in the match, HB Rage grabbed its first lead when Kay-Dee Lane

set up Nicole Montgomery’s game-winning goal with a perfectly placed

cross pass.

The play of goalie Kelly Honrath and defenders Stephanie Strockis,

Amanda Bermel, Lauren Butler and Danielle Hoffman held Region 56

scoreless the remainder of the game.
