Girls water polo: Foothill forfeits win over Newport
Richard Dunn
Foothill High’s girls water polo team forfeited its 9-3 nonleague
victory against Newport Harbor last Friday because suspended co-coach Dan
Klatt reportedly attended the match illegally, improving the Sailors’
record to 17-4 (including Wednesday’s 13-2 win over Woodbridge).
Newport Harbor Coach Bill Barnett said “it’s ridiculous†that the CIF
Southern Section has forced Foothill to forfeit the win.
Klatt, who received a red card in the previous game and was suspended
from attending the Newport game, reportedly was on the Newport soccer
field, adjacent to the pool.
Foothill (17-1), the two-time defending CIF Division I champion, also
defeated Newport Harbor, 5-4, in the Santa Barbara Tournament this year.
