Girls basketball: CdM edged by Northwood

IRVINE - The Corona del Mar girls basketball team completed its

best performance of the season, but it wasn’t enough as the Sea Kings

lost, 50-48, to Pacific Coast League host Northwood Tuesday.

“We had the game-winning shot and we didn’t hit it,� CdM Coach Elbert

Davis said. “It was a great game to be a part of. We ran off the last 15

seconds and missed the wide-open shot. It’s the best game that we have

played from start to finish this year. Everyone contributed. Courtney

(Kawata) came off the bench and gave us a spark. We’re a different team

when she’s in the lineup.�

Junior Lucy Ramsey led the Sea Kings (6-13, 1-4 in the PCL) with 13

points and seven rebounds. Kawata, a senior in her first game back since

Jan. 10 when she injured her ribs, scored eight points, as did junior

Madison Otterbien.

CdM returns to PCL action Thursday at 7 p.m. at Laguna Beach.

The Sea Kings lost to host Canyon, 45-35, in a nonleague game Monday.

CdM junior Kelliann Klein scored a team-high 10 points.
