Won’t need a telescope for Brecht’s ‘Galileo’

The Readers Repertory Theater will present Bertolt Brecht’s “Galileoâ€

at 7 p.m. today at the Mesa Verde Library in Costa Mesa. In the play,

Brecht explores issues of scientific morality and the relationship

between the intellectual and authority by characterizing the famous

physicist.

Directed by Edith M. Schwartz, “Galileo†features Marcia Bonnitz, Jim

Bragg, Robert D. Breton, Vince Campbell, Alex J. Logan, Brian Page,

Howard Pelzer and Allen Zeltzer.

Readers Repertory Theater is the Vanguard Theatre Ensemble’s outreach

to South County. Mesa Verde Library is at 2969 Mesa Verde Drive, Costa

Mesa. The performance is free.

‘Gypsy’ to be performed by local kids

The Musical Theater Academy of Orange County in Costa Mesa will

present its Spotlight Performers this weekend in “Gypsy.†The Spotlight

Performers are 13 to 18 years old.

“Gypsy†is the story of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and her relationship

with her mother.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. today, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2

p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Ana, 600 N. Main

St. Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors

and children younger than 12.

The Musical Theater Academy is a nonprofit children’s musical theater

company dedicated to providing professional instruction in singing,

acting and dancing to youth ages 6 to 18 to cultivate confidence and life

skills.

Newport woman directs ‘Fool for Love’

Deirdre Shoo of Newport Beach is directing “Fool for Love†at the

Vanguard Theatre Ensemble, 699-A S. State College Blvd., Fullerton.

The Sam Shepard play set in a western motel room centers on a couple

who were once in love and perhaps still are.

“Fool for Love†opened Jan. 11 and will be staged through Feb. 9, with

performances at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 5 p.m. Sundays. Tickets

are $15, with discounts available for students and seniors.
