Girls basketball: Newport never quits in loss
NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Harbor High girls basketball team
earned respect, but lost, 55-30, to Sea View League visitor Woodbridge
Thursday.
Sophomore Jillianne Whitfield led the Sailors with 12 points and
junior Lindsey Woller added seven.
“We actually played very good half-court defense,†Newport Coach Jen
Thompson said. “Woodbridge is 18-2, 4-0 in league and I thought we played
their big girls real well. We never gave up. We played hard for the full
32 minutes. Just hearing some of their fans and coaches say, ‘Your team
never gives up,’ is very encouraging to hear.â€
Newport (2-16, 0-4 in league) will have a bye on Tuesday and will then
host Aliso Niguel Thursday at 7 p.m.
