Boys basketball: Sage Hill rolls to 61-42 win
NEWPORT COAST - The Sage Hill High boys basketball team responded
to its loss to St. Margaret’s Tuesday with a 61-42 Academy League victory
over visiting Oxford Academy Thursday.
Junior Mike Fitzhugh shot 11 of 13 from the field (85%) to lead the
Lightning with 24 points and he also grabbed 14 rebounds. Sage Hill
junior Erik Williams contributed 14 points, six steals and seven assists,
while sophomore Kevin Joyce chipped in 12 points.
Oxford dropped to 3-9, 0-4 in league
“The guys really responded (from the St. Margaret’s loss),†Sage Hill
Coach Gordon McNeill said. “We couldn’t afford to lose this game. (The
Lightning) rose to the challenge. We got up by 30 in the fourth quarter.
It was one of the best games we played all around.â€
The Lightning (5-6, 2-2 in league) returns to Academy League action
Tuesday at 6 p.m., playing at Brethren Christian.
