FRIDAY

Orange County Children’s Theatre will present “The Wiz†Jan. 11

through Jan. 20. Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays; 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Performances will be held at Huntington

The Huntington Beach Playhouse will present “A Chorus Line†from Jan.

11 to Feb. 3. Shows will be at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 3 p.m. and 8

The Sierra Club’s Orange County Sierra Singles holds a fast-paced

four-mile walk around Mile Square Park at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. The group

JAN. 25

A Brazilian Carnival/Mardi Gras will be held from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Center Ave. The show combines samba and showgirls. There will be beads,

masks, full bars, Cajun and Brazilian food and costume contests. Tickets

The Friends of the Children’s Library is holding a reception for

children’s authors and illustrators participating in the 12th annual

Authors Festival of the Huntington Beach Library. The event will take

Optimum Boot Camp, a fitness class on the beach, is offering 47

classes a week. Morning classes are at 5:30 a.m., 6:45 a.m., 8 a.m. 9:15

a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Evening classes are at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30

p.m. There is a shortened schedule on weekends. Classes include a

military-style obstacle course, cardiovascular endurance, fat burning and

The Huntington Beach Concert Band is an all-volunteer community

organization with approximately 70 members, led by music director Tom

Ridley. Founded in February 1973, the band plays a wide variety of

musical styles -- from classical, to Broadway, to contemporary. They

perform frequently at events and locations throughout Southern

California, including Disneyland, Leisure World, Huntington Beach Pier

Plaza, and Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. The Huntington Beach Concert

Band is open to all interested musicians age 18 and over. Rehearsals are

held 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the band room at Marina High School
