Three local schools earned titles last weekend at the Ocean View

Middle School Basketball Tournament held at Marina High.

Marine View came away with a pair of championships while surprising

Vista View and Mesa View each won a division crown.

“Once again, there was great team enthusiasm and avid parent support

at this annual tournament,†said Ocean View District Sports Coordinator

Kelly Painter.

8TH GRADE GIRLS

Marine View 36, Spring View 30

The top teams during the regular season met in the division final,

with regular season winner Marine View capping a perfect season.

Point guard Allison Budzinski scored 10 points and had eight rebounds

and six assists to lead the Mariners while Kaydee Lane scored 10 points

with eight rebounds and Loren Kortizija added seven points and four

steals.

Spring View was led by Amy Stanford’s 14 points and seven rebounds and

Josnique Thomas finished with 10 points and six assists and Elizabeth

Brown grabbed 11 rebounds.

8TH GRADE BOYS

Vista View 51, Mesa View 44

The upset of the tournament came in this finale as Vista View upended

regular season winner and previously undefeated Mesa View.

Samar Haddad’s 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists, coupled

with Garrett Leon’s 14 points and 11 rebounds, paced Vista View, which

dropped both regular season games to Mesa View. Derek Kramer chipped in

nine points for the winners.

Greg Bartolme led Mesa View with 18 points and nine rebounds, Mitchell

Roemer scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds and floor leader Dylan

McDonald handed out eight assists.

7TH GRADE GIRLS

Marine View 59, Spring View 23

Ten players got into the scoring act as regular season champion Marine

View finished the year unbeaten.

Elizabeth Brown had double figures in points (10) and rebounds (12),

Stacey Yin scored 11 points and had five steals, Laura Boggelin scored

eight points with 10 rebounds and Chrissy Van Doornum was the Mariners’

spark plug off the bench with eight points and four steals.

D.J. Butler topped Spring View with nine points and 11 rebounds and

Lauren Fukuzawa had five assists.

7TH GRADE BOYS

Mesa View 52, Marine View 39

Ryan Shillito scored 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, Ted Hennes

scored 10 points and added 13 rebounds, Dax Miller contributed seven

points and eight assists and Jess Silva netted 14 points to lead a

powerful performance by the regular season champion Eagles, who also went

unbeaten this season.

Marine View, which finished in third place during the regular season,

received 16 points and nine rebounds from Nick Potrykus, 11 points from

Bryce Overend and four points and three steals from Justin Pack.
