Riptide overwhelms opponents

The Newport Riptide, a 14-and-under girls fastpitch softball

traveling team, hosted a one day tournament at Bonita Creek Field in

Newport Beach Sunday.

The Riptide earned victories over all three of its opponents.

In the first game, Christine Kulick pitched a three-hitter to help the

Riptide defeat the Orange County Blaze, 14-0.

In the second game, Ashley Gleason and Sasha Grumman teamed up on the

mound to lead the Riptide to a 4-1 victory against the Laguna Niguel

Quicksilver.

In the final game, Kelsey Ferguson pitched a shutout against the Blaze

to help the Riptide earn a 14-0 win.

The Riptide outscored its opponents, 32-1, and did not commit any

errors.

Contributing on offense were Alex Shitanishi, Jenny Tompkins, Tori

Harrison, Tami Divino and Markie Bingenheimer.

Newport Riptide is hosting a National Triple Crown World Series

Qualifying Tournament on Feb. 9-10 at Bonita Creek Field. Teams from the

western United States are expected to attend.
