A much-anticipated decision on whether to allow a development of

residential lofts in Cannery Village will have to be anticipated a little

longer, the Newport Beach Planning Commission decided Tuesday.

Saying they needed more detailed information about the project’s

environmental effects, commissioners decided to postpone approval on the

project until probably February.

Cannery Lofts is a proposed development of 22 live-work lofts and a

public walkway planned for the Cannery Village area. The lofts’ design

combines residential living area in lofts overlooking ground-floor

professional space.

It is planned to be built along both sides of 30th Street, between

Villa Way and LaFayette Avenue. The lofts would be free-standing,

owner-occupied units of about 3,000 square feet. Four will sit on the

Rhine Channel waterfront.
