AYSO Region 97: Breakers win big

The Newport Beach Breakers, a girls under-10 all-star soccer team

from AYSO Region 97, continued their winning ways with a 5-1 victory over

the Tustin Gold all-stars in the first round of the Costa Mesa Classic.

Scoring goals were McKenna Cottam, Brianna Schwartz, Elizabeth Eddy

and Tina Theriot. Terra Friedman, Kasey DeYoung, Missy Fitzpatrick,

Marianne Jones, Kelly Heenan and Courtney Francis dominated on defense

for the Breakers (8-0).

The Breakers led, 2-0, in their second-round game against the Laguna

Niguel Gold squad, but play was stopped in the first quarter due to rain.

Schwartz scored on an assist from Eddy. Zoya Farzaneh scored the second

goal minutes later with an assist from Cottam.
