Those living in the Deep South will be a bit jealous of us today.

While there’s a slight chance of showers this morning, most of the day

will be partly cloudy with highs in the low 60s in Newport-Mesa.

Overnight, lows will hover in the low 50s, a far cry from the 20s and

30s, y’all.

Look for warmer readings Friday and mostly clear skies. Take that,

East Coast!

BOATING FORECAST

In the inner waters, there’s a heavy surf advisory in effect today.

Meanwhile, the northwesterly winds will blow light early but will pick up

to 10 to 15 knots this afternoon. The west swell will be in the 6- to

12-foot range. This evening, the waves will be about 2 feet, while the

swell drops off to about 5 to 7 feet.

Out farther, the northwesterly winds will blow their typical 10 to 15

knots early, but will increase to the 15- to 20-knot range this

afternoon. The combined seas will be about 10 to 13 feet. Later, the

winds will shift to northeasterly, blowing 10 to 15 knots again. The

northwest swell will be in the 8- to 10-foot range overnight.

SURF

The waves should prove fruitful today as some of the standout spots in

the county see head-highs and some of the San Diego coastline sees some

near double overheads. In Newport Beach, most waves will be in the

chest-high range, though shoulder-highs shouldn’t be counted out. Expect

similar conditions Friday.
