RIVERBOAT OUTDOOR DINING

The Riverboat Restaurant aboard the Pride of Newport, off Bayside

Drive, wants to add outdoor dining areas. The open-air sections would be

located on the stern and bow sections of the boat and will be used for

lunch and evening food service. They would close at 10 p.m.

What to expect: Planning commissioners will hold a public hearing and

approve, modify or deny the request.

GENERAL PLAN AMENDMENT PROPOSALS

Planning commissioners will discuss three proposed general plan

amendments. The first project would increase a professional and business

office complex on MacArthur Boulevard by about 225,000 square feet to

allow construction of two 128-foot-high, eight-story office buildings

with parking lots and a parking structure. If approved by city officials,

the amendment would probably trigger a Greenlight election, because the

proposed size of the project goes beyond the 40,000-square-foot threshold

set by the slow-growth initiative.

A second project is a plan by Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church

to increase the allowed size of existing church properties by 24,000

square feet to allow for the construction of a new church, as well as the

expansion of an existing elementary school.

The third plan, submitted by St. Mark Presbyterian Church, proposes to

change the land use at the corner of MacArthur Boulevard and San Joaquin

Hills Road, and limit development to 20,000 square feet to allow the

construction of a new church complex.

What to expect: Planning commissioners may either initiate the

amendments and direct city officials to prepare the necessary

environmental documents, or deny any of the proposed amendments as

unwarranted and return them to the applicants.
