Solid Gold continues golden run
Solid Gold, a boys’ Under-10 Gold Division All-star team out of AYSO
Region 117, continued its winning ways in the 2001 Area 11-K All-star
Tournament by collecting a pair of victories last weekend.
Solid Gold first defeated Region 5, 2-0, then followed that triumph by
shutting out Region 55, 6-0. Both games were played at Peterson
Elementary School in Huntington Beach.
Against Region 5, Michael Chairez and Kevin Kuwahara each scored to
help give Solid Gold its third tournament win.
Chairez came up big again in the second game leading all scorers with
four goals and an assist. Carlos Rodriguez scored the other two goals and
Brandon Messer came up with a pair of assists to complete the 6-0 win
over Region 55. The victory improved Solid Gold to 4-0 in tournament
action.
Goalies Kyle Day and Trevor Warren combined in the net to hold their
opponents scoreless. Along the way they got outstanding defensive help
from Joel Antista, Jonathan Crouch, Alec Stone, and Ryan Little.
Messer, Drew Russell and Lucas Vandeman controlled the midfield and
set up key passes to forwards Rodriguez, Chairez and Kuwahara.
Solid Gold outscored its four tournament opponents, 18-2.
“I’m proud of every single one of these players,†Solid Gold Coach
Juan Rodriguez said. “They have given their best performance as a team so
far.â€
Solid Gold will continue Area 11-K tournament play Saturday at
Peterson Elementary School.
