Girls basketball: Eagles take care of Northwood

COSTA MESA - The Estancia High girls basketball team took one more
step toward its first league title in 10 years after Tuesday night’s
52-42 Pacific Coast League win over visiting Northwood.
The Eagles (15-9, 7-2 in league) were led by sophomore Tisha Gray, who
scored 13 points, all in the second half. Zuyin Barrera added nine
points, while Tory Matsufuji chipped in eight.
“A win is a win and at this point of the season, we’ll take them any
way we can get them,†Estancia Coach Paul Kirby said.
The Eagles were in control from start to finish and led by as many as
15 points.
Elmira Razaei led the Timberwolves (9-17, 1-8) with 16 points She
helped Northwood get to within six points with 3:20 left in the fourth
quarter, but Estancia held on for the win.
“They hit some threes down the stretch, which made it closer,†Kirby
said. “They hit more shots in the second half.â€
Estancia will play at University Thursday at 5:15 p.m. The Trojans
upset the Eagles, 45-38 on Jan. 23.
“That was probably our worst game of the year, while Uni probably
played one of its best games,†Kirby said. “We just have to play our game
and we’ll be fine.â€
