Bluejays take fourth at World Series
The South County Bluejays travel baseball team finished the recent
2000 Continental Amateur Baseball Association’s World Series
(10-and-Under Division) with a 6-3 record, and captured fourth place
overall in competition held in Aurilla, Iowa.
The team, which has two Huntington Beach athletes on its roster,
finished pool play as the No. 1 seeded team in its first World Series
appearance.
The highlight of their pool play was a 10-9 victory over the Puerto
Rico National Team, the eventual tournament champion.
Local players James Miller and MJ Forsberg were key elements to South
County’s success. Miller hit .280 for the tournament and played key
defense in center field, and Forsberg hit .522 with one home run, and
also pitched a team-high nine innings, earning two victories.
Freddie Freeman, who had a tournament-best five home runs, and Jose
Bran, who hit .547, represented the Bluejays on the all-tournament team.
The South County Bluejays were coming off a ninth-place finish at the
Cooperstown NIT in June.
