Garofalo gets nearly $25,000 as mayor

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- More than once, Dave Garofalo has publicly stated
that he gets only $175 a month for serving as mayor.
But city records show that with benefits and other allowances, the
mayor actually has a total compensation package of nearly $25,000 a year.
In addition to his monthly pay of $175, Garofalo receives a
miscellaneous authorized expense allowance of $1,297 each month, which
adds up to $15,564 a year in financial compensation, said Jim Lewis, the
city’s senior budget analyst.
In total, Garofalo can receive a cash sum of up to $17,664 each year Additionally, Garofalo is covered for health benefits, which the city
pays in an additional allotment per month.
Here’s the rundown:
* medical insurance -- $485 a month or $5,820 a year;
* dental insurance -- $100 a month or $1,200 a year;
* life insurance -- $15 a month or $180 a year.
When those figures are added up, that number climbs to $7,200 each
year. When all is considered, the city pays out $24,864 a year to the
mayor.
