Boys basketball: Sailors win first-round matchup
ANAHEIM -Newport Harbor High’s two-headed monster of Dustin
Illingworth and Aaron Yarnal scored 50 of the Sailors’ 60 points en route
to a 60-47 win over Foothill in the first round of the Edison Basketball
Festival at the Anaheim Convention Center Tuesday.
The Sailors, despite being outscored, 35-26 in the first and third
quarters, dominated the second and fourth quarters, outscoring the
Knights, 34-12.
Another important factor for Newport was the free-throw shooting. The
Sailors were 13 for 16 from the charity stripe, while Foothill was only 5
for 6.
Zach Smith and Alex Rasmussen each had 11 points for the Knights.
The Sailors play the winner of the Katella-El Toro game Thursday at
4:40 p.m. in the second round.
