Bree Peterson scored a game-high 27 points and Huntington Christian
School completed a perfect season Saturday by defeating Mariners
Christian School, 50-39, in the championship game of the Christian
Athletic League of Orange County.
The victory allowed Coach Stephanie Horiuchi’s squad, which finished the
season 11-0, the chance to avenge last year’s loss to Mariners in the
1998 title game.
Peterson scored 17 of her points by halftime, where Huntington enjoyed a
26-18 lead. The defensive play of Shannon Funk, who caused numerous
turnovers, also contributed to the eight-point lead.
The scoring of Peterson and Nicole Klawitter and the rebounding of Ashley
Bent and Lindsay Pai, allowed Huntington to up its lead to 16 points in
the second half.
Mariners could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Marisa Conroy led Mariners with 13 points.
