Boeing, kids team up for holidays

The Boeing Corp. and Huntington Beach youngsters have teamed up this
holiday season to create a calendar featuring students’ art and essays on
what life would be like on a space station.
Students from the Huntington Beach City School District are now selling
the calendars for $10 to raise money for the district’s Huntington Beach
Education Foundation.
The foundation will use funds collected from sales to promote science and
technology grants for teachers in the district.
The project was created by Perry Cain, Boeing community relations
manager.
“We are always looking for creative ways to get children interested in
science and technology,” Cain said.
The 14-month calendar received 500 art entries from students.
The calendar will feature more than 100 pieces of art picturing what life
would be like on a space station. The essays are mock postcards from a
space station’s inhabitants.
All students who participated in the contest received a certificate.
Those who sell the most calendars will win the opportunity to participate
in a simulated space mission at the Challenger Center at Cal State
Dominguez Hills.
Boeing spent about $25,000 publishing, printing and designing for the
project.
Sales began last week, and Cain said the calendars make great stocking
stuffers.
