AYSO Region 57: Hurricanes take second
NEWPORT BEACH - The Hurricanes girls under-10, AYSO Region 57 girls
soccer team went 4-0 in the playoffs to reach title game, but lost to the
Flames, 3-1.
In the title game, Alexandra Tobiessen scored the Hurricanes’ lone goal
off a pass from Annalise Moore, while Laura Bilder and Lindsay Seeley
scored for the Flames.
Hurricanes goalkeeper Emily Hillgren kept the game close with numerous
saves.
The Hurricanes reached the finals after knocking off the undefeated Blue
Angels, 3-2.
Alison Luke scored the Canes’ first two goals and Tobiessen scored the
game winner late in the second half.
Crystal Converse had an assist for the Hurricanes, who finished the
regular season in fourth place and went 4-0 in the playoffs to reach the
championships.
In girls under-12 girls action: Galaxy Girls 2, Bruisers 0 - Taylor Beauchamp and Katie Wade each scored
for the Galaxy Girls to help end a perfect season with a championship
win.
The offensive support was led by Emily Almaraz, Kelly Nelson, Kara Jones,
Jessica Wertheim, Caitlyn Czisny and Amanda Knuppel, while on defense,
Ashley Carnahan, Caroline Claure, Rachel Haber, Jae Morosin and Kelly
McElroy kept the Bruisers off the scoreboard.
In boys Division 5 action:
Blue Bombers 2, Blue Blasters 1 - Peter Yould scored the first goal off
an assist from Parker Rhodes, and Mitchell Williams scored the
game-winner for the undefeated Blue Bombers.
Goalies Nick Freeman and Reed Williams, along with defenders Andrew
Halladay, Russell Goldberg, Evan Lividas and Bret Weinberger helped limit
the offensive output from the Blasters.
Aiding the offense for the Bombers was Camden Higginson, David Schwartz
and Brandt Lange.
The Bombers reached the finals after knocking off the Green Jets, 3-2, in
the semifinals.
Mitchell Williams scored two goals, while Reed Williams added another
goal.
