No more manic Monday council meetings

NEWPORT BEACH -- The City Council on Monday decided unanimously to change

its regular meetings to the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month,

beginning in January.

With next to no debate, council members decided to change the day in

order to give themselves and city staff more time to review their weekly

packet to better prepare for meetings.

The quick vote was 7-0.

Changing the meeting day would also give staff an extra day to prepare

the reports, said Dave Kiff, deputy city manager. Reports are now

available to council members on Wednesday. After the change, that will

shift to Thursday and the public will be able to receive the information

on Fridays.

The council first discussed changing the date of the meetings at the

Sept. 18 council and staff retreat.

Despite the change in days, the time of both the study sessions and the

council meetings will not change. The study sessions will continue to

start at 4 p.m. and the meetings at 7 p.m.

Now that the proposal has been approved, the council and city clerk’s

office will begin to notify residents and other interested parties of the

news. Notices will be mailed to all homeowners’ associations and will be

included in the November and December water bills, officials said.
