MISSION VIEJO - Orange Coast College’s men’s and women’s water polo

teams shelled the opposition in the semifinals of the Orange Empire

Conference Water Polo Championships Friday at Saddleback College, the men

belting Cypress, 10-4, and the women handing Cypress the same sort of

treatment, 10-2.

Coast’s men (22-6-2) will duel Riverside (20-10), an 11-7 winner over Saddleback, for thew title today at 1:30.

The Pirates’ women’s team (21-5) has a similar arrangement, meeting

Riverside (27-4-1) at 2:45 for the title after the latter nicked

Saddleback, 3-1.

COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College was a 7-0 winner over visiting

Golden West in women’s soccer Friday afternoon, the Pirates rolling

behind the play of Diane Meza, whose hat trick helped the Pirates end the

season on a high note.

Meza scored the game’s first goal in the 14th minute. She also opened

the second-half scoring, knocking home a shot in the 54th minute. Her

third goal came in the 69th minute.

Taylor Yurada, a product of Newport Harbor High, scored twice for the

Pirates. Katie Ogden and Jennifer Porter each added one goal.

Meredith Lake had three assists for Coast, and Nicole Jan kowski had

two assists.

The Pirates outshot Golden West from the field, 51-3, allowing goalie

Dawn Hans a virtual nap. She did, however, have one save.

The women’s team bowed out with a 7-11-4 overall record, 5-5-2 in the

Orange Empire Conference.

Orange Coast’s men’s team closed out its 1999 campaign.

Cooper Briscoe netted a goal in the 65th minute to provide the

Rustlers with a 1-0 verdict in Orange Empire Conference play. Golden

West goalkeeper Jose Medina recorded six saves, including two key saves

in the final minutes. Carlos Loza of Orange Coast had 10 saves for the men’s team, which closes out with a 3-14-4 record overall, 2-7-3 in the

OEC. Golden West is 6-11-2, 5-6.
