Soccer: Amebas shake the Demons, 5-2

NEWPORT BEACH - Brandon Sowers scored two goals to lead Newport’s

Ameba soccer team to a 5-2 win over the Costa Mesa Demons in Boys-14

intercity AYSO Area Q boys soccer action Saturday.

The Ameba led, 4-0, at halftime on goals from Sowers, Mike Bury,

Brenden Zimmer and Sergio Luna.

Costa Mesa cut the lead to 4-2 on two goals from Nick Aguirre late in

the third quarter.

Sowers put the game away late with a breakaway goal, started from his

center-fullback position 65 yards out.

Next up, the Ameba take on Corona del Mar’s Team One at 3 p.m.

Saturday at Lincoln Elementary.
