MILLENNIUM MOMENT

The first Cisco Kid, Herbert Stanley Dunn, hung up his sombrero in Costa

Mesa after acting in more than 200 silent films.

Dunn started his career in the movies as a property boy with Vitagraph

Films in New York in 1905. He eventually came out west in 1913 to act in

the Cisco movies, which are said to be the first series of movies ever

made.

Dunn did all his own stunts, and once suffered a broken leg when a horse

fell on him. He eventually gave up acting to become a property master for

Columbia Studios in Hollywood, and retired in 1957.

MILLENNIUM MOMENT celebrates the people who have made a major

contribution to the Newport-Mesa community during this century.
