H.B. police investigating 92-year-old woman’s death as homicide; neighbors are ‘stunned’
Huntington Beach police say they are investigating the death of a 92-year-old woman found in her home this week as a homicide.
Police received a call at about 10 a.m. Tuesday to check on a resident in the 6800 block of Vista del Sol Drive, according to a post Friday afternoon on the Police Department’s Facebook page.
When officers entered the home, they found the body of Ruth Strange, the sole occupant, according to the department.
Police said the homicide investigation is based on “information developed at the scene†but provided no further details.
Neighbor Sue Abbott said she was “stunned†and had “no idea whatsoever†what could have happened.
Neighbors described Strange as frail and said she used a walker. Her daughter would visit daily, taking her to a doctor or lunch. Strange’s husband died years ago, neighbors said.
A woman who had been Strange’s friend for decades but did not want to publicly identify herself said that a few days before police discovered the body, she heard Strange’s side gate slamming back and forth. She said she found that odd since Strange always made sure to latch the gate.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call (714) 375-5066 or (800) 78-CRIME (782-7463).
