A bar crawl to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Orange County chapter will be held from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Newport Beach.

The Winter Bar Crawl for a Cause will begin at Malarky’s Irish Pub, 3011 Newport Blvd.

Those who participate in the crawl will be able to taste special drinks at each bar. Other stops are Stag Bar + Kitchen, Baja Sharkeez and Blue Beet.

The annual Fit & Fabulous Fashion Show will run from noon to 3 p.m. Monday at the Founders Village Senior and Community Center, 17967 Bushard St., Fountain Valley.

The Costa Mesa City Council will hold a study session Tuesday to receive and review a budget status report for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.

Robotics competition coming to OC Fair & Event Center

A robotics competition will be held Thursday through March 2 at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa.

The event will run from 7:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. March 1 and 2 at the fairgrounds, 88 Fair Drive.

In the FIRST Robotics Competition, teams of high school students create industrial-size robots to compete in a field game.

Ocean View School District recognizes top employees

Four employees of the Ocean View School District were recently honored as Employees of the Year.

They are flooring repairman Noah Valadez, food service worker Jill Earnest, office manager Cynthia Smith and instructional assistant Julissa Aleman.

“These classified employees truly embody what it means to be a part of the Ocean View family,” district Supt. Carol Hansen said in a statement. “They have served hundreds, if not thousands, of our students during their careers, and they continue to put students’ needs first and build positive relationships each and every day.”

The Huntington Beach-based district also named its Regional Administrators of the Year: Felix Avila, assistant superintendent of human resources, and Randy Lempert, principal of Mesa View Middle School.

Waymakers receives $1.1-million state grant

Waymakers, which runs the Huntington Beach Youth Shelter, recently received a $1.1-million grant from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to help combat domestic violence.

The two-year grant will go toward Waymakers’ Project PATH (Positive Action Toward Health) program, which focuses on solving issues such as drunk driving, drug abuse and domestic violence.

“We have reached a critical point in addressing the issue of family violence. This grant from Cal OES will allow us to raise awareness of the issue — and resources available — statewide,” Ronnetta Johnson, executive director of Waymakers, said in a statement. “We hope to change the staggering rates of domestic violence through this campaign that will connect with people, especially young people, and deliver a potentially lifesaving message.”
