Newport police receive $75k for real estate fraud investigator
The Newport Beach City Council on Tuesday approved an award of $75,000 for the Police Department from the Orange County Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Trust Fund.
The Orange County District Attorney’s office handles the fund awarded to law enforcement agencies in the county for investigating cases of real estate fraud, according to a press release.
The fund will go toward the salary and benefits of an investigator for such cases. Real estate fraud is currently investigated by detectives in the Economic Crimes unit of the Police Department.
The unit also investigates credit card fraud, forgery, embezzlement and identity theft.
