One hospitalized after beach brawl

A brawl at Corona del Mar’s main beach sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Newport Beach police responded about 6 p.m. Monday to a call about a fight outside a van in the main parking lot of Big Corona Beach, said police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.

The victim was taken to Hoag Hospital.

Joey Magallenz, 29, of San Bernardino, was arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of battery causing serious bodily injury, Lowe said.

Magallenz and the victim had travelled to the beach with a large group before the fight broke out, according to Lowe.
