Dorothy Jo Swanson: May 12, 1915 - June 1, 2010

Dorothy Jo Swanson, 95, owner of Dorothy Jo Dance Studio from 1949-87, died June 1. She moved to Corona del Mar in December of 1948, and joined the Balboa Bay Club, Newport Beach Country Club, Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club and choreographed their annual Showboat production, was a NADA faculty member, Coastline College professor and created Dorothy Jo’s Happy Hoofers, who performed locally.

DJ is survived by her daughter Sandra McKay, son Don Swanson, grandsons Jed and Jake Swanson, great-granddaughters Amy and KaCey McKay. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hal Swanson, who was CdM’s first mail carrier; and grandsons Don and John McKay.
