Almost 900 new coronavirus cases reported in Orange County as state fixes computer glitches
The logjam of coronavirus test results at the state level broke free Monday, bumping up cases of the coronavirus by nearly 900 in Orange County.
The county reported 886 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 40,527, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.
The news comes after days of artificially low reports as technical difficulties hindered the state health data collection system and led to the sudden resignation of Dr. Sonia Angell, the director of the California Department of Public Health, the agency in charge of collecting the electronic test results.
Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that his administration has fixed the public health computer database failure and all backlogged test results have been processed.
In Orange County, hospitalized coronavirus patients numbered 468, with 152 in intensive care. An estimated 30,657 have recovered.
The county reported no related deaths Monday, keeping the total at 724. Two hundred and eight-four of the patients in Orange County who have lost their lives to COVID-19 have been residents of skilled nursing facilities, while 38 resided in assisted living facilities, and one person was experiencing homelessness.
