Daily Pilot, TimesOC win Orange County Press Club awards

Times Community News, which publishes the Daily Pilot and TimesOC, won three Orange County Press Club awards on Thursday.

Daily Pilot columnist Patrice Apodaca won the David McQuay Award for best columnist, while TimesOC contributor Bradley Zint took first place in the food and restaurant category. TimesOC contributor Caitlin Yoshiko Kandil finished second in the religion category.

Zint’s Nov. 7 story was on a restaurateur who fishes, and Kandil wrote about Muslims who travel to prisons to minister to inmates, and her piece was published on April 15, 2019.

The Orange County Press Club recognized work from 2019. The event was originally scheduled for June 18 at Anaheim Hills Golf Course, but the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the in-person gala. The journalism club revealed all the winners on Facebook Live Thursday.
