Museum to host art trip to Seattle

Laguna Art Museum members are invited to join the Contemporary Collectors’ Council on a trip to explore the art and culture of Seattle on a four-day excursion from Sept. 15 to 18.

Locations included in the trip will be the Olympic Sculpture Park, Pike Place Market, Seattle Center, and the Rem Koolhaas-designed Seattle Public Library, along with private collections at the Seattle Art Museum, the Henry Art Gallery and galleries in Pioneer Square, according to a press statement from the museum.

The group will have a tour of The Boathouse, Dale Chihuly’s former home and studio on Lake Union, and observe a glassblowing demonstration by Team Chihuly. Other destinations include an excursion to Tacoma, home of the Tacoma Museum of Glass and the Tacoma Art Museum.

Community Concert Band to perform July 18

The Laguna Community Concert Band will hold its first major concert of the season from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 18 on the Festival of Arts grounds. Mayor Toni Iseman will be guest conductor and longtime Arts Commissioner Pat Kollenda will be honored for her work with the performing arts in Laguna, according to spokeswoman Betty Everett.

Selections will include music from “Fiddler on the Roof,†marches and overtures. Edward Peterson of Laguna Beach, Bill Nichols from Laguna Niguel and Pete Fournier of Irvine will conduct the 60-piece concert band.

Indian dancer at Festival of Arts

Indian dancer Rashmi Vaidialingam, considered one of India’s best practitioners of Kuchipudi, a traditional Indian dance form, will perform at the Festival of Arts from 3 to 4 p.m. on the Festival Green, according to a press statement from the Festival of Arts.

The performance initiates a new series “Art in Motion: Hip Hop to Tango,†which will offer varied dance performances throughout the summer at the Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.

Kuchipudi combines acting, music and dance as the dancer takes the audience on a journey through space and time, according to the Festival of Arts.

Kristin Korb Trio to jazz it up at Hotel Laguna

Laguna Beach Live! will present the Kristin Korb Trio during Jazz Wednesdays on from 6 to 8 p.m. July 20 at Hotel Laguna, 425 S. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach. Korb plays upright bass and sings in the tradition of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, according to Laguna Beach Live!

Llew Mathews will join her on keyboard, and Steve Barnes will be on drums.
