High School Roundup: Laguna’s alumni basketball tournament set for Saturday
The Laguna Beach High boys’ basketball program will host its annual alumni tournament at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Dugger Gym.
Laguna Coach Bret Fleming said teams will be formed Saturday before play gets underway at 9 a.m. He said between 40 to 60 players will be involved in the tournament, and the current Laguna varsity players also will compete and be divided into two teams.
“As always, it will be a reunion of friends and family, with some fun basketball mixed in,†he said.
Baseball
The Breakers completed their summer season this week and took on Tustin on Thursday in their final game. Results weren’t available at press time.
In two previous games in the past week, the Breakers received strong pitching performances from Joe Sweet against Woodbridge on July 22 at Ryan Lemmon Stadium in Irvine, and Kent Cebreros at Century Tuesday.
“It has been fun to see some seniors step up, like Dylan Smith, Grant Potratz and Will Bonn, and play really well,†Coach Mike Bair said.
Bair said the summer session revealed areas where the Breakers need to improve upon.
“We will need to work on our base running and defense, primarily,†said.
