What it’s like to go to school when dozens have been killed nearby

Sonali Kohli is a former Los Angeles Times reporter. A product of Southern California, she grew up in Diamond Bar and graduated from UCLA. She worked as a metro reporter for the Orange County Register and as a reporter covering education and diversity for Quartz before joining The Times in 2015.

Iris Lee is a former assistant data and graphics editor at the Los Angeles Times, where she led development of data-driven projects. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a master’s in journalism and holds chemistry and international studies degrees from UC Irvine. She first joined The Times as a Data Desk fellow in 2017.
