Bachmann: No talks on endorsing Romney
Reporting from Washington -- — Mitt Romney may be holding a rally in Minnesota on Wednesday, but it’s not an indication that he’ll win the backing of former rival Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman said.
Pushing back against speculation that Bachmann is preparing to throw her support behind Romney, Bachmann called on the Boston Globe to retract an article that reported that her advisors had been in talks with Romney advisors about a possible endorsement.
“Let me be absolutely clear,†Bachmann said in a statement. “There are absolutely no negotiations between me and the Romney campaign regarding any pending endorsement of Gov. Romney. I continue to speak with all the candidates and plan on uniting behind the presumptive nominee.â€
In an interview on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,†Bachmann noted that she would not be in Minnesota on Wednesday. She’ll be in Washington while Romney attends a rally in Eagan, Minn.
Bachmann said she wants to be “a unifying voice†but that she had no plans to endorse a candidate before her home state caucuses next Tuesday.
“I talk to all of the candidates on a regular basis. I enjoy talking to them. We had a wonderful relationship and camaraderie on the presidential campaign trail,†she said. “That continues, but I haven’t yet made a decision about who I will endorse or if I will endorse before the nominee is chosen.â€
