Readers React: L.A. doesn’t have clean streets, but it has big concerts

To the editor: I live near the Granada Hills Christmas Parade route. Normally, there are street sweepers that follow the end of the procession to clean the streets; this year there were none. That got me thinking about your editorial. (“L.A. needs a smarter street-cleaning program now,” Editorial, Dec. 7)
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti promised to get back to basics. He also complained of perennial budget deficits. Still, under his leadership the city effectively gave away $170,000 to promoter Live Nation for putting on the Made in America music festival held over Labor Day weekend.
How many empty lots would that have cleaned up?
