Readers React: Teachers coming together to help one of their own
To the editor: It isn’t often that I read a positive article about teachers, but your story on Carol Clark, a sixth-grade teacher at Jaime Escalante Elementary School, really got to me. I didn’t know that teachers could donate sick days to a colleague in need, but it’s a great program and it’s gratifying to see how so many selflessly heeded the call. (“After cancer diagnosis, an outpouring of support for Cudahy teacher,†Sept. 1)
I send my sincere wishes to the Clarks for the speedy recovery of Carol and her permanent return to the students she loves and who love her.
It was the last line of your article that brought me to tears, when a student told her, “Thank you for teaching me today.†This is what excellent teaching is all about. Thank you for the lesson.
