Readers React: Long history of anti-Semitism
To the editor: The letters to the editor responding to the op-ed piece by the actor Michael Douglas, which was published March 15, that focused on the policies of Israel toward the Arabs on its borders missed the entire point. (“Is anti-Semitism to blame for harsh criticism of Israel?,” Readers React, March 20)
Douglas was not defending Israel’s policies, nor was he supporting them; he was saying that many people hate Jews because of them.
Well, not all Jews are Israelis, right? People have hated Jews long before the state of Israel and its borders mattered to anyone.
To me, the reason that people are prejudiced or hostile to Jews does not matter. The Holocaust and Jewish history have taught me all I need to know regarding anti-Semitism.
