To the editor: Kudos to The Times for giving front-page exposure to our outstanding Los Angeles Philharmonic. It is high time that the arts receive as much recognition as the quotidian news of suffering and lament. (“Inside the Philharmonic,” Feb. 8, 12, 14 and 15)
I regularly travel from Riverside to attend the L.A. Phil and have had the happy opportunity to ride an elevator with assorted musicians, several of whom were highlighted in the Thursday feature.
Your coverage does much to reinforce the tremendous effort that Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and the Phil are making to reach out to the greater community. Music has such an enriching effect, particularly when experienced in the concert hall. I hope your coverage encourages more people to attend a performance.
