Letters: The biggest fish to fry aren’t in Bell

Re “The lessons of Bell,” Editorial, Dec. 11

Where’s the justice? Former Bell administrators Angela Spaccia and Robert Rizzo were found guilty of enriching themselves at taxpayer expense and face jail time, as they should.

But what about the Wall Street moguls who did much worse and brought the entire U.S. economy to the edge of collapse, costing billions upon billions of dollars? For the most part, they got off with some fines — that represented a few weeks of revenue — and are walking around free.

Perhaps the Justice Department decided they wouldn’t be comfortable in jail.

Maybe the thought of spending a few months incarcerated would be sufficient to scare them straight.

I am very proud of The Times’ investigative journalism into corruption in Bell. I am sure that the residents of Bell are very happy that Spaccia and Rizzo have been brought to justice. It makes us all feel more confident in our free press and our justice system.

Thanks to The Times for not avoiding controversy. I look forward to more hard-hitting articles.
