Letters: Spoils of war

Re “Politicians fall back on old issues in Israel,” Dec. 25

I’m no fan of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but I agree that he has the right to order construction on land that Israel occupied after it was forced to fight a war for its survival. It’s called the spoils of war. Why should Israel be denied land that it won in a defensive war?

Recently, I visited the village in Poland where my mother was born before World War II, when it was part of Germany. After the war, Russia and Poland divided up some parts of Germany that they had legitimately won toward the war’s end.

If Russia and Poland had every right to the land they won in a war, why doesn’t Israel?
