Grand Central Market houses more than 40 food stalls, which will be updated to reflect a changing downtown and the next generation of vendors while staying true to its legacy, planners say.

Re “Downtown market is going upscale,” Dec. 27

I read with horror about the proposed “updating process” of Mercado Central. It has a unique character reflecting Los Angeles in days of yore.

Wi-Fi, wine and couches have no place there.

Does every place have to resemble Starbucks?

It would be like changing Olvera Street.
