Letters: The NIMBY test for Allenco
Re “Breathing easier,†Jan. 12
After reading about the ailments suffered by University Park residents that all but vanished after Allenco Energy Inc. shut down its nearby oil field, I thought of a good way to grab the undivided attention of the company’s top executives: Require them to walk in the shoes of those they have adversely affected.
So here’s how we implement the NIMBY test for Allenco: Once it makes the required improvements and is allowed to reopen the field, the company’s chief of operations should take up residence nearby for one year (perhaps Allenco would foot the bill).
If Allenco is confident that the family of a senior executive will stay healthy, then we should be satisfied that the health of the residents will remain unmolested by toxins.
