Artists: Do you want to design a bench for Heisler Park?
The Laguna Beach Arts Commission is accepting applications from professional California artists willing to design a bench for Heisler Park.
Competitors are invited to submit images of previous installations and their public art resume, according to a news release.
The 18-acre Heisler Park, which is atop an ocean bluff, has beach access, walking paths, lawns, gardens and picnic areas. It also offers numerous ocean-view benches, public art installations, a lawn bowling area, restrooms and a gazebo.
Artists should keep in mind that the bench must be constructed of durable materials that will be easy to maintain in an ocean environment, accommodate four to six people and have surfaces that are comfortable and safe to sit on in the sun, the release said. Wooden elements are discouraged.
A $20,000 honorarium is available, according to the city website.
Artists must submit proposals by Oct. 5. For more information on project requirements, visit lagunabeachcity.slideroom.com.
