Letters: Debating Benghazi
Re “Heated words on Libya,†Jan. 24
It was very interesting to watch the Republican members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee berate and at times excoriate Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton over the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi, Libya, that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans. The Republicans are in a feeding frenzy.
It should be remembered that on Oct. 23, 1983, in Lebanon, we lost 241 American servicemen in a suicide bombing. This happened when a Republican was “on watch.†I don’t recall the scale of political acrimony then being what we are seeing now.
This is obviously a witch hunt.

Clinton asks “what difference does it make†if four Americans were killed in a spontaneous or planned attack. It determines if she is competent to hold the position of secretary of State, that’s all.
Tears and anger do not relieve Clinton of what was a dereliction of duty.

Kudos to Clinton for putting those male senators (Rand Paul, John McCain and Ron Johnson) in their place. She showed her mettle and stood up to those guys.
Clinton has done a fabulous job as secretary of State and can step aside with pride after her four years of service. I don’t think those senators can say the same for their service these last four years.
